Appliance: a device or piece of equipment designed to perform a specific task, typically a domestic one. Appliances are our little (BIG!) helpers. They make light of heavy duty work and save us time and energy. Are we keeping our friends clean and in good working order?
Dishwashers, refrigerators, stoves, and washing machines are considered large appliances. Small appliances include coffee makers, toasters, mixers and blenders. All are considered essential to many of us, and are used on a daily basis.
How do we keep them clean? With vigilance! Most large appliances can use a regular wipe down - either with warm soapy water, or with a cleanser like: Scrubbing Bubbles, Windex, or other type of cleaner. Sometimes, there's stuck on dirt and grime - so a stronger (but gentle enough not to scratch!) scrubber may be needed. SOS pads can get off lots of things with less effort. Refrigerators, washers, dryers, dishwashers, freezers, etc. - they all need to be wiped down if not daily - at least once a week as dust settles whether you use it or not.
Behind your large appliances - like your refrigerator - is arguably the dirtiest couple of square feet in your house. It's a meeting place for dust, gunk, and a host of other stuff that’s fallen behind it. If you can, pull out large appliances and mop. Then vacuum refrigerator coils to keep it running well. Replace loose door gaskets to save energy with a tighter seal, and wipe gaskets down with warm, soapy water; rinse and dry once per month.
Smaller appliances also need to be regularly cleaned and sometimes they can be partially disassembled and placed into the dishwasher for a thorough cleaning. Blender containers and tops, NuWave cooker tops, pans and racks, etc. can all go into the dishwasher. Toasters, toaster ovens, can openers, etc. have to be wiped down.
Take Away: Take care of your appliances and they will take are of you!
